Does anyone else day dream when they run? I do. You wouldn't believe all of the races, medals, and World Championships I've won over the years ... in my make believe, drift-off, fantasy world I create in my mind that is. It's either kinda funny or really pathetic, depending on how you look at it. I mean, I am a grown man. But it helps pass the time over all the miles. I'm not exactly sure how it happens, but I'm just cruising along, listening to my iPod, when all of the sudden I'm lost in the haze of some world famous race or event.
Today, my little scenario went like this ...
It was the 2016 Olympic Marathon. I surged from the back of the pack to catch the East African runners at the front. The crowd chanted U-S-A ... U-S-A ... U-S-A, as I enter the stadium for the last lap. With about 100 meters to go, I drew even with the lead runner. I could hear the announcers remarking about what an amazing accomplishment it was because I was 47 years old, a grandfather, and on my way a new world record regardless of the outcome. With about 20 meters to go, I passed the Kenyan and the crowd went wild as I crossed the finish line with my anthem playing ... "Unity" from Shinedown, ... "Put your hands in the air if you hear me out there, I've been looking for you day and night..." My family was there cheering me on, and the crowd adored me. Oh it was amazing! I'm sure I probably got several breakfast cereal and running shoe endorsements from it. What a champion I was!
Man ... I'm a geek. Have a great day!
... be great today!
I am waving my hands in air, cheering you on to beat the Kenyans! You will be able to hear me clearly since I have two medal spatulas that I'm clanging together.
ReplyDeleteI like this! I often run somewhere among the leaders in a very hardcore ultra while training :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS!! So glad I am not the only one that does this. ;)
ReplyDeleteWalt Disney once said "If You Can Dream It, You Can Do it". This must explain why I don't day dream. I know better. Well sometimes I just imagine crossing the finish line. That's enough.
ReplyDeleteSee you in the 2016 Olympics I guess.
Sounds like a way better day dream than mine when I run. They usually involve stopping and having little Thai ladies massage my aching muscles.
ReplyDeleteI do this, too, except I usually go full-on fantasy and pretend I'm someone else, someone who really might live out the dream. Then I usually do something like trip and fall on my knee, which brings reality back really fast.
ReplyDeleteI'm standing with my hand over my heart singing the star spangled banner... U-S-A U-S-A U-S-A U-S-A U-S-A
ReplyDeleteI've been there man.... I know how it feels to win the gold! .... LOL
