Good First Week of Marathon Training

Week ending July 13th
I literally just walked in the door from my long run to wrap up my first week back at marathon training.  It feels great to be actually training for something again - and all in all it went really well!

I'm really pretty speedy right now compared to where I've been in the past.  In fact, I'm probably in the midst of my fastest 6 month stretch ever.  I don't ever remember being able to put together 5:30ish paced half-mile repeats, but I did on Thursday on dead legs after a Tempo Run the day before.  I obviously won't run back-to-back hard workouts like that normally, but my schedule was a little out of the norm this week.

The 18 mile long run today went really well too.  I've been running with my friend Jeff on weekends, who really pushes the pace for me.  We ran 18, and I planned on doing 8-10 of them around 7:15-7:20, which we did.  The best part is I was really pleased with how I felt during the run.  It took me a while to get loose, but once I was comfortable, the pace wasn't easy by any means - but it was very manageable in the low 7's.  It's really right where I want to be right now.

Hopefully during this training period I'll stay healthy and fit.  If so, there should be good things waiting at the finish line in Chicago ... but that's still way down the road.  Hope your weekend goes well!
... be great today!

  3. Ha, please ... the goal is just to finish. I would like to PR, so 3:19 something would be nice.
