"Light Up The Sky" - Really Good Tempo Run

"Hands held high, sweat drippin' off me,
Light it softly, got these fakers tryin' to stop me,
This ain't a hobby it's a way of life,
Like Holyfield and Tyson, gloves on fight night,
Watch me light up the sky ... light up the sky!"
Light Up The Sky - Thousand Foot Krutch

That verse is from the song "Light Up The Sky" from Thousand Foot Krutch was ringing over and over in my ears during this morning's Tempo Run.  Because even though the conditions were not fun, about 80 degrees and 80% humidity, the dark 4:30am morning sky was actually really clear and incredibly starry.  It seemed like a good morning for a great workout - so I partook!

Look at miles 3-5, they are incredibly consistent!  I wish I could tell you that it was on purpose, but I couldn't see my Garmin display for most of my run so that's mostly luck - ha.  Overall I felt pretty good about the workout considering the suffocating humidity.  The 7 Tempo miles were at a 6:39 pace, and actually my Garmin stopped for about a half mile during mile 6 so it was actually about 7.5  miles at that pace, for an overall distance of 11 miles.  The pace wasn't too tough to manage, but I have really got to begin stretching the distance out a little more at these faster paces.

One thing that's going much better this summer is I'm really making a concerted effort to start a little faster.  Usually my old legs take 3 or 4 miles to warm up, but I'm trying to push it a little, hopefully so I don't leave so much time on the clock in the early miles of a marathon.  I figure the quicker I can settle into my marathon pace, the better.  Anyway, hope your training's going well - have a great week!
... be great today!

  1. I have set up my MP3 to play this song near the end of every race I have ever run! Love it!
You SHOULD be proud of those times! Excellent!

  2. 80 degrees at 4:30 in the morning is ridiculous. Isn't Summer nearly over yet?
Great splits on those 1m reps. I love when I can get all my reps pretty consistent. Yours are like you're running to a metronome.
