Really Positive Tempo Run, 10@6:36

With less than three weeks until the Chicago Marathon,  my training seems to be really coming together and sharpening up.  I've been running really good times lately and this morning's Tempo Run was a continuation of that.

After a brief two mile warm up, I managed the next 10 miles at an average pace of 6:36.  Here's the best part, it just felt really smooth and easy.  Like about 80% without any max effort at all.  I couldn't have been happier with the outing.

The temperature helped in that it was only in the high 50's, but it was literally 95-100% humidity which made it a little hard to breath.  But it's much better than the summer heat and humidity we've had lately.

The only minor red flag for me going into this marathon is I have no idea what's going to happen after mile 22 or so.  I think I can get through those at my targeted pace, or really close to it, but after that everything is up in the air. I really wanted to run some long runs over 26 miles this summer to get mentally ready for the race, but my farthest runs were only 24 miles.  So since it's been a little while since I've ran a marathon, the distance is freaking me out a little.

Other than that, I feel strong and ready to go.  I wish the race was next week - staying sharp the last two weeks has always been a challenge of mine.  So we'll see how it goes. But I'll mark today down as another good tempo run that hopefully leads to great results in Chicago.  Have a great week!
... be great today!

  4. You are running so strong Just nailing your work outs!!!

Question, do you create your own training program? I have a pretty big goal I want to achieve in Boston next year and am not sure if I should do it on my own or hire a running coach.

  6. That's the great thing about the marathon - it's all a mystery until you've run it. Nice to hear that a hardened marathoner like you can still freak out. Makes me feel better about my own little psychoses.
