Ominous clouds brought a little thunder & lightning, but mostly rain on Saturday |
Rainy ... I say RAINY day in KC on Saturday. Runners at the 41st Annual Hospital Hill run dodged rain drops through the streets of downtown KC, and so did I on my first 20 mile long run of this marathon season in Lees Summit. It literally poured on me every single step of the way ... and it was awesome! As long as it's not cold rain, a few showers have really never bothered me on a run. And this morning was no different. I was able to get the 20 miler in at a 7:30/average pace, with the middle 13 miles ran at 6:56. Not quite marathon pace, but close.
The long run wrapped a pretty good week of marathon training where I feel like I made significant progress. Next week is a recover week, so I'll reduce the mileage a little, but mostly slow the paces. Here's how the week went ...
... be great today!
The only bad thing about running in the rain is the potential for chaffing. And not being able to see through the raindrops on my glasses. Apart from that it's a real buzz.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was very conscious of the chafing, but we're good
DeleteI did nine miles in the KC rain this morning. The stream I was running beside was getting swifter, deeper, and muddier as I ate up the miles. Lots of friend did Hospital Hill, but I did a half last weekend and have one next weekend, so I took a pass.
ReplyDeleteI think the rain was intermittent at HH, glad I wasn't there, the course is brutal
DeleteI love running in the rain (but I generally have to get caught in it to do so...I don't like starting in the rain unless I'm with friends) and have found that it can be pretty darn cold and I'll be fine as long as I'm moving. Enjoy your recovery week. :)
ReplyDeleteI kinda need the recovery Kate!
DeleteThat is one hell of a week. You should be proud! Great job.
ReplyDeleteby the way, I've recently concluded:
ReplyDeletethe newbie: 10-20 mpw
the average runner (and I don't mean average in speed): 20-30 mpw
the beginning to want to see better results runner: 30-40 mpw
the ambitious runner: 40-50 mpw
the very dedicated: 50-70
the insane: 70-100 mpw
professional/very fast: 100+ mpw
Ha, well most of the time I would definitely classify myself as insane
DeleteThat picture of the clouds is amazing! Your training is very impressive. I admire how you stay so focused and dedicated. Well done my friend!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cory - anytime I get a compliment from you on a photo, I know it's a good one, ha
DeleteI dig the rain too... and that is one of my favorite running songs... from my homeboys Limp Bizkit
ReplyDeletekeep Rollin'!
Breath in, now breath out
