One Of Those Weird Little Things...

What are some of the "Weird Little Things" you do when you run?

www.bvallc.com
Do you do anything that's out of the norm, or is just a little odd when you run?  Maybe it's something that's bad for your form, or that actually works against you.  I have one of those things ...

I squeeze on gel packs!  Yes I admit it ... I'm a two-pack-a-race squeezer!  It's a weird little habit I picked up somewhere, but for some reason it seems to release stress late in a race when I'm really trying to push the pace.  It's probably counterproductive to what I'm trying to do.  I mean, I think as runners we're supposed to keep our bodies as relaxed as possible ... but I squeeze and squeeze and squeeze. Having something to fiddle with in my hands seems to take my mind off of how bad my legs hurt, or how much I can't breath.  I think it's kin using a stress ball.  I usually end up using one or both of the gels, but until that time, I get them nicely massaged in tightly clenched fists.  Sometimes, I substitute gloves, but I really prefer gel packs.

The only other "not so weird, but kinda dumb" thing I do is ask people who are watching the marathon, "Have any girls passed me yet?"  I think it's funny, but the reaction I get is better.  Most people laugh, but some people reply very seriously, "Yeah, man ... quite a few!!!"

So what are some of the funny or weird little things you do?  Just curious!  Have a great week!
... be great today!

  1. I run with my two thumbs up in the air. It looks really stupid but I am not conscious of it until I see pictures.

a bottle or phone or sports beans and I change hands every miles

  3. "Yeah man, quite a few." That's hilarious!

Besides my bad habit of not finishing marathons as fast as predicted, I don't know that I have a weird habit. Although I have taken those infomercial type supplements during a race knowing that they probably weren't doing $hit.

  4. I don't think anything I do is weird or odd......ha!

No clue I just run kinda like Forrest Gump but because I hate that movie I will no longer refer to it.

  6. We all have our weird little things. @ajh, in nearly ALL of my race photos, I appear to be pointing. I keep a really loose/relaxed hand but for some reason, my pointer fingers are always pointing!

  7. When I'm in a groove, my right arm will start to move up and down as if I were dribbling a basketball. Weird, but works for me :)

  8. So have you ever squeezed one until it burst? I'm not sure all my weird little quirks, but when the chips are down, I'm sure they surface and it's not pretty!

  9. I crack my knuckles, for some reason it seems to relax me-just as your gel packs do!

When I crack them it makes me feel faster LOL-isn't that dumb?!

  10. This is so funny! I will have to think on this one. I put the gel packs in my bra and my friends make fun of me for that but I'm not sure if I do anything weird while I run. :)

  11. That's not so bad - but it could get bad if you squeezed so hard that one accidentally burst.

  12. Love it! I don't have any that I know of except that I never look at my watch during a run or race. I only look at it when I start and when I finish. Anything in between will be very bad luck.

  13. ha! That last one cracks me up. I bet people love informing you of your status.

As far as I know, I'm just a heavy breather. Like REALLY heavy.

  16. Nothing that I'm aware of while running, but on the rare occasions that I cross-train and swim, I hum while exhaling. Just can't seem to quietly breathe. I've always done it since I swam swim-team as a kid. Not humming a tune or anything, just a steady hum.

The only habit I seem to have with running is a bad habit of ending up at physical therapy. Definitely a habit I'd like to break.
