Your PR Sucks!!!

Last Sunday while running the Casper Marathon, I had a funny conversation with another runner that I thought I'd share.  It was about mile 12 or 13 and I came up along side a younger marathoner...

Him .. "How ya doin'?"
Me ...  "Not bad, I'm strugglin' a little with the altitude"
Him ... "I'm hurtin' a little too, but I've got a good reason for it"
Me ... "Why's that?"
Him ... "I just ran Fargo a couple of weeks ago and then Newport yesterday - I PR'd at Fargo!"
Me ... "Oh that's cool - well, you're probably pretty spent then!"
Him ... "Yeah, I ran a 3:19:56 at Fargo - I was pretty excited because it sounds a WHOLE lot better than 3:20:something"
Me ... "You're right!"
Him ... "If you don't mind me asking, what's your PR?"
Me ... "3:20:03"
Him ... "Awe *#%*# man, I'm sorry - I didn't mean anything by that ... *#%*# I'm really sorry"
Me ... "Ha - no worries ... you're right, your PR sounds much more impressive than mine!"

Just thought that was a pretty funny exchange.  And yes, I AM killing myself to try to get below 3:20, because this young man was right ... 3:19 sounds a WHOLE lot better than 3:20:something! Whatever your PR may be - have a great weekend!
... be great today!

  1. You should have just reached over and smacked him. Yep! That would have showed him how you really felt. Ha!

  2. That's kind of like asking someone if they are a master's runner...and they aren't.

  3. Proud of his PR wasn't he? And you are such a slow old thing - a whole bunch of seconds slower than him.

  8. You should have said 2:15 and that you were working on your spot in the Olympics for 2016. That would have given him something to mentally chew on for awhile :)
