Bring It On Little Rock!

Nervous enough to puke back in 2009
This morning we're 7 days away from what ... if I finish ... will be my 28th marathon.  Little Rock.  This was actually my first ever full marathon back in 2009.   I was sick the entire week before, wore REALLY long shorts & homemade arm-warmers, went out way too fast, crashed at about 22, but still managed a 3:43.  Not bad for my first full 26.2.

Heavier then, in shorts that look like a skirt
But you know me ... competitive.   Nelly called me one of the most competitive people he's ever read about.  That's probably true.  But as I'm always quick to point out, I'm almost NEVER competitive with other people ... only myself. No offense, but for the most part I couldn't care less about how fast you're running.  If you smoke me ... great job.  If I get there before you ... great job too!  But I am cut-throat, 100% all out, try to back you down, win or die trying, competitive with myself.  And that being said, I have one goal next weekend ... beat my time from 5 years ago.

I think I'm probably a much better runner now.  If nothing else, I should be much wiser and able to manage a race much more efficiently.  This winter's training hasn't gone as planned.   And there have been some minor setbacks.  Some weather related.  Some self-inflicted.  But short of a disaster, I think I should most likely be able to best my previous Little Rock time without too much trouble.   3:24 is my goal, and I "think" I can hit that right now.  But I haven't gone over 20 miles since November, so I'm a little concerned about keeping pace over the last 5 or 6.  Overall I'm a little nervous about it.

I'll probably run 2 or 3 light runs this week, and really focus on rest.  And hopefully next weekend, I'll be able to put #28 in the books ... with a better time than the first one.  Have a great weekend!
... be great today!

  1. 28 marathons is a lot of miles! I am pretty competitive with myself too. I like it that way.

  2. I have absolutely no doubt that you're going to give that goal of yours a red, hot go. You're a very driven runner who never gives up without a fight.
