Kinda/Sorta Recovery Week

I'm not good at recovering.  I never have been.  But I know my body needs it, especially as I get older.  So about once a month, I'll back the mileage off about 10-15% and really shorten the uptempo work.  The only fast runs I had this week were some Striders (Fartleks, Pickups, Intervals ... whatever you call them) on Wednesday, and a 5K race on Friday night.  Other than that, everything was shorter and slower than normal.

Sprinklers (wasting water) in my neighborhood early on Saturday morning
Typically I won't have a midweek, or evening 5K, which we did on Friday.  So that altered my schedule a little.  But since I'm still 12 weeks from my marathon, it really didn't matter that much.  Plus, I really wanted to find out where I was as far as foot speed went.  I was pretty happy with the 18:57 result, and hope to improve that a little later this summer.  Here's how the week went ...

This week I'll get back at it and really start getting into the meat of  my summer program.  My body is starting to change again, which is good, and I'm really getting stronger and a little faster.  Now I just need to get to a point where I can run 26 miles faster than I ever have before ... easier said than done.  Hope your training is going well - have a great week!
... be great today!

  1. One day I hope to be able to say that my 17k run was easy. But somehow I don't think that'll ever happen.
BTW - thanks for the laugh you gave me with your comment. I have a sneaking suspicion that you may have used that tactic before.
