PR at Tulsa ... Oh Yes, THE BEARD Is Real!!!

THE PR BEARD is Real!!!
Just a quick note to thank you for all the kind words that everyone left for me going into the Route 66 Tulsa Marathon this weekend.  As many of you know, in the past few weeks I documented the growth of THE PR BEARD.  I vowed not to shave until I PR'd in a marathon again.  Sunday, I PR'd with a 3:20:03.  (I'm really pretty disappointed with the time - more on that later.  But hey, it's a PR so I'll take it!)

Apparently I forgot how to run tangents, because I actually ran 26.51 miles.  Pretty disappointing, because at 26.2 I was at 3:17:50 which I could have lived with.  I'll write the standard full report later this week, which I know you are dying for - ha.

Now, there's quite a discussion going on in our house about shaving THE PR BEARD.  Michael thinks it should go immediately.  But my dear friends, I said I wouldn't shave UNTIL I PR'd again ... not WHEN I PR'd again!  HUGE DIFFERENCE SWEETIE!!!  Just imagine the world of possibilities and good luck THE PR BEARD could bring us ... it might be around for a while!  Have a great week!
... be great today!

  2. Awesome. I am looking into the PR beard for myself.

  10. STOP THE NONSENSE PEOPLE!!!! Please STOP encouraging my husband to keep that fuzzy thing on his face. I miss his cute sweet face. I can't even see him when it's all covered up. Thank you!

  12. I'm with Michael on this one, plus you tricked her. Shave it off, man.

    Congrats on the PR!

When are you running a marathon in MI??? Three good ones to choose from: Bayshore Marathon is beautiful and relatively flat (it is the Saturday of Memorial weekend -- registration opens Dec. 1 and sells out in a day/hours (I did the half in 2010))... Grand Rapids Marathon is October 21 -- super fun, very well organized run in my town with cool medals and awesome staff to make this your best marathon experience ever. I volunteered this year after backing out of the half 'cuz my hip is all wonky (I vote of this one!!)...Detroit Free Press Marathon is October 21 also...spiffy medals, run into Canada, you get to run thru the streets of Detroit...I don't know much more than that.

Ok so there ya go. Congrats again on another stellar performance.

  20. CONGRATS! Goodbye beard! They are itchy to women!

  21. I think you totally need to keep the PR beard to compensate for people like me who couldn't grow a PR beard if they tried.

(AND....my wife had my little girls make bracelets for the 100 miler after reading your post about the bracelet you wore. I put a picture at www.fastcory.com). Thanks for the idea!

  22. I'm just wondering how long you were prepared to let that beard get if you hadn't PR'd. Santa Claus long? Or weird Indian guru who hasn't ever shaved long?

    Congratulations, by the way.

  25. My Nana (from England) used to have an expression: An Englishman without a beard is like an egg without salt! Guess I'm like Nana - I like the beard! And it's not outta control - too many young men these days have the "Galifianakis" look - it works for Zach - but so not cool for most! But I digress, it's always best to make your BFF happy!

  26. If you believe it is the beard then go with it!! Congrats on the PR.
