Project 3:09

Today begins Project 3:09!

What is it you ask ... well my friends, it's my attempt to run under 3:10:00 at the Prairie Fire Marathon in Wichita, Kansas in October.  Now, I hear ya ... "Jim, you idiot - that's more than 10 minutes off of your marathon PR, and you're not getting any younger pal!"

First of all, I AM an idiot - but it has nothing to do with running.  Second of all, I needed a new "insanely tough" running goal for motivation and focus this summer.  Will I reach it?  I don't know.  It will require a lot from me.  But I would highly encourage you to doubt or discourage me ... limitations others put on me have always been the most flammable fuel I've found.  Have a great running week!
... be great today!

  1. I actually think you've got this! You have made wise preparations and have put in the work needed to change your stride and gait to make yourself a better runner.

I'm looking forward to following Project 3:09!

  6. Wow, that is a tall order, but you seem to achieve pretty much everything that you set your mind to. I'm honestly not sure if you'll get all the way there, but I'm curious to find out!

  7. Much like BDD, my heart isn't in this, but .... there's not enough Geritol in the world to get your old self under 3:10. Now I need a nap.

  10. Nice goal! Did you read the story about Peter Sagal getting his PR at age 46? You can do it, too! You are super close.

  13. I don't mean to dampen your motivation, but I think you are very capable of nailing this goal. Good luck with the training!

  14. There's no reason why you shouldn't have a big, audacious goal. You might just get there and we'll all be there cheering you on from the (virtual) sidelines.
