Runner Spotted!

First off today ... got these little slices of heaven in the mail yesterday!  Boston Red Sox tickets!  I was freakin' more excited about these than when I got my race confirmation!  I LOVE baseball, sue me!

Yeah, I make out with baseball tickets, whatup!

Does it make you feel good when someone you don't know recognizes you?

I was in Walmart the other day, and as the 18 year old cashier was ringin' up my spinach leaves, bananas, blue berries, yogurt, rice, and beans ... someone behind me said, "Are you a runner?"  It took a minute for it to register that the person was talking to me.  I turned around and there was a guy standing there.  I laughed and said, "Oh ... yeah!"  He said, "I thought so by what you're buying and the Brooks jacket - I think I've seen you running before."  (He had a wedding ring, so I don't think he was hitting on me.)  We talked for a minute and then went on our way.

And then at the gym a few Saturday's ago, I guy I see there all the time said, "Man, I see you running everywhere!  How many miles do you run?"  I just laughed and said, "Yeah, it's a bad habit ... probably more than I should!"  We talked a little and then went back to working out.

Now, the self-absorbed Jim might have thought, "Man, I'm like a small-town celebrity ... kinda like the Lees Summit, Missouri Dean Karnazes! "  But the rational side of me knows that they were probably thinking, "Hey, check it out ... there's that crazy dude who runs all the time!  What a dork!!!"

But even though the truth was probably closer to the latter because I am pretty dorky ... they still knew I was a runner baby!!!
... be great today!

  10. You know you're a runner when.....Non runners recognize who you are. Haha! I used to see a runner when I was growing up. This guy would run hours and hours. I would see him running and them 4 hours later still see him running. It was crazy.

  13. I love when people make those kind of comments. I have a goal in MS and LA to inspire people to run or walk. Not sure if I'm making any progress, but I try lol!

    Have FUN at the game!

  14. Dude, you are a local legend.

I love baseball too. Are you a Royals fan? If so, you are a true baseball fan. Cardinals are a great NL team and St. Louis is a great baseball town. Hope those aren't fighting words.

  16. HAHAHAHA! That's really funny. When I wear my Vibrams I get that "oh, are those the new running shoes?" I like to think of myself as famous but I'm pretty sure that it's mostly in my head. When people find out that I marathon they usually say "do what? Why would you ever WANT to run that far"....mostly because it's cheaper than therapy.

  17. My hubby and I were just having this conversation about people recognizing us as "that" couple. We have people stop us and say "you guys bike and run all the time". They must think we are total freaks - but if that's what we're known for, that's fine. It could be worse! :)
