4 Simply Superb Running Haikus

Dim the lights.  Cue the faint bongo drums in the background.  Throw on a  mock turtleneck and horn-rimmed glasses, because it makes you look smart and artsy.  You can even light one up if you want.  Hand me the mic ...

          Playing so much golf,
Sucking more and more each day,
          Need to run instead.

          But my legs feel dead,
Even from a few short miles,
          Way too much time off.

          PR's are awesome,
But they make me lose my focus,
          Need another race.

          Don't feel like running,
          But tomorrow back at it,
          Core work's gonna hurt.

Thank you.  I'll be here all week.  Yes, I've been slacking quite a bit lately but tomorrow I'm back at it.  Just don't have a big race coming up for a while so I've lost a little interest in killing myself at 4:00 AM everyday.  Plus it's given me time to reaffirm just how much of a non-sport golf really is.  I mean if morbidly obese 65 year old men can be really good at it ... how much of an athletic event can it be?  But that's probably just an excuse because I'm horrible.  That's fine, I would smoke any of those 300lb retired guys in anything else!  Now I feel better.
... be great today!

  2. Glad to see a post - I figured your silence meant your break had been extended! I think long breaks are good, though. I know a super healthy fast runner who is never injured, and she takes days or weeks off running after EVERY race: even a 5k. She makes herself recover and recoup strength. She told me she used to have lots of tendon problems, so now she gives them time to regain flexibility.

  3. I don't want to be harsh, Jim but I don't think you'll ever be appointed Poet Laureate. Just as well you have other talents.
