Early morning lightning this morning as the Thunderstorms rolled out
I intended to run a fast tempo run this morning, but only really met about half of my time goals.  It was a great run overall, though.  I felt faster and stronger than I have since way before my last marathon ... but I was just a little off for some reason.

When I woke up at 4am, there were Thunderstorms still in the area from overnight with constant lightning flashes off in the distance.  I took this photo in June of 2009, and it is exactly what the sky looked like this morning.  The light show made for an awesome run, and the flashes were far enough in the distance that I didn't ever feel at risk by being outside.

I warmed up at a good pace and then began speeding up to a pretty fast tempo (fast for me anyway, I know others are much faster), but after a while I just really seemed to "lose interest" in going that fast.  My heart rate was fine and I felt really strong, but I just looked down at my Garmin at some point, and thought ... this is pretty silly this early in the morning.  After that I slowed down a little.

Here are the splits ...
8:46, 8:09, 8:12, 7:52, 7:35, 7:17, 6:40, 6:25, 7:39, 7:20, 7:28, 7:44

Um, notice the drop-off after mile 8 ... yeah, the next two were supposed to be between 6:25 and 6:45 too.  I think with a little more motivation or "something" I could have completed the scheduled workout, but I really slowed down.  Overall it was a still a good run though.

At about mile 1.25 I saw a familiar shadowy figure a few hundred feet ahead of me ... it was Michael!  Wow, imagine seeing her here.  We had just seen a dead snake a few blocks back that weirded us both out. I smacked her on the butt and off we went to meet back at home later!  All in all it was a good run, just "wasn't feelin' it" for some reason.  Oh well, there's always tomorrow!
... be great today!
