Conversation With Michael & Jim: Greek God of Running Or Something

If you've followed my blog for a while, you know in the past I've given you a little glimpse into mine and Michael's life by reporting a funny argument, or little anecdote we shared.  This was today after I got home from my Tempo Run ...

me ... "Babe, check out this SWEET photo I got while taking pictures of my running form!"

michael ... "Seriously ... who takes pictures of themselves at the track?"

me ... "No but, check it out, it looks like I'm flying!!!"

michael ... "How much time did you spend on that?"

me ... "I'm not joking around ... just check out my form ... and well, frankly ... check out THAT BODY!  Babe ... I'm 44, and just look at it!  I think I might be the Greek God of Running or something ... and you get to live with this!  It's like you won the husband lottery!!!"

michael ... "Oh my gosh sweetie ... I just took a good, long look at the photo ... you're right!  I am simply the luckiest girl in the world!  You are truly a beautiful man!  Boy oh boy do I thank my lucky stars for a sculpted specimen like you!  Wow!  Simply ... WOW!!!"

That is an absolutely TRUE account of what transpired between us.  But I seriously was trying to take various photos of my running form to analyze later.  I used the timer setting on my camera.  I just thought the picture was cool.  And I was mostly kidding about the description.  Ha.  However, my Tempo Run was fairly uneventful.  It was 75 degrees this morning, with 85% humidity, so the legs were dead and heavy after the first few miles.  But I was able to hit most of my splits for a shorter Tempo Workout of 5 miles at pace ...

          2 mile warm up ... 8:34, 7:46
          5 miles at tempo pace ... 6:54, 6:50, 6:46, 6:53, 7:02 (average pace of 6:53)
          3 mile cool down ... 7:52, 8:22, 8:31

I was kinda all over the pace with my splits, but my Garmin was about to die and I got that "Low Battery" message right across the screen so I was having trouble viewing my pace.  It wasn't a big deal.  I'm still waaaay early in marathon training, and all I really wanted to do was 4 or 5 miles at a faster tempo.  So mission accomplished.

But the real "mission accomplished" was that friggin' picture.  I mean, just look at those sexy legs. Have a great weekend!  Hope your training ... and photos, turn out great! (Hopefully you know me by now, and this post is dripping in sarcasm. Sideways smiley face!)
... be great today!

  1. Great job getting that with the timer. Can't wait to hear Michael's version of this.

  2. The ultimate runner's selfie. Michael is truly a lucky woman to wake up to that every day and beneath her sarcasm and eye rolling I bet she's thanking the Gods of Romance that you looked her way. (Excuse me for a moment while I wash out what I just threw up into my mouth.)

  3. I see a magazine photo shoot coming your way, nice work.

Regarding your wife's underwhelmed reaction - things could have been worse. Rather than the using of your initiative the alternative for her might have been days of you begging her to lie on the track side with a camera to help you out. Trust me that's never good I had to beg for what felt like weeks to get pictures of my rowing training one summer!

  4. Great selfie! My husband always mocks my selfies, but he isn't a runner either. He seems to think all runners are a different breed.

  5. Love the picture - definitely "magazine worthy". Looking forward to reading Michael's rebuttal blog

  6. My wife saw this post and said, "You need to run more so you look like that."

Good for your ego, not so much mine.

  7. Ha - probably not an accurate depiction of what I actually look like ... balding, ugly, old, and wrinkly - but thanks - ha.

  8. Funny Jim. But that is a pretty cool picture. I am not sure I would like to see a picture of my running form. (PS: Thanks for you email response the other day. I really appreciate your insight. I decided to move to a faster pace group.)

  9. I've been away from reading and writing blog posts (and exercise of any kind for that matter) and forgot how funny you guys were! :) Love the I'm off to read Michael's account!

  10. I hope I don't get in trouble with my equally as awesome husband - but you look fantastic in that shot. I'm still not convinced that you didn't steal that photo off the web :)

  11. That is a really great picture. I'm still trying to imagine the logistics of how you captured it. Were you just timing your passes by the camera?
